Description
The 2023 (D) Native American Dollar - Position A is a dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 1.1 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only 25% of total production. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The 2023 Native American Dollar honors prima ballerina Maria Tallchief of the Osage Nation and American Indians in ballet. The reverse shows Tallchief in a balletic pose with a lunar motif representing the "Five Moons" — five Oklahoma-born Native American ballerinas. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #916351.
