Description

The 2012 (D) Presidential Dollar - Benjamin Harrison, Position A is a dollar from the Denver Mint, belonging to the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint reported 4.2 million Benjamin Harrison dollars from Denver for 2012 as a whole; no separate count of Position A edges exists. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The twenty-third President (1889–1893), Benjamin Harrison was the grandson of ninth president William Henry Harrison, making them the only grandfather-grandson presidential pair. His administration oversaw the admission of six states — more than any other president. Arthur, Cleveland (first term), Benjamin Harrison, and Cleveland (second term) were issued. Production shifted to collector-only, ending circulation strikes. Cleveland is the only president with two Presidential dollars, one for each of his nonconsecutive terms. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #512068.
