Description

Part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series, the 2024 (D) Dr. Mary Edwards Walker Quarter is a quarter from the Denver Mint. The Denver Mint struck 159,400,000 Mary Edwards Walker quarters dated 2024. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (modeled in 1931 and first used on a quarter in 2022) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. The reverse shows Dr. Mary Edwards Walker with her pocket surgical kit in hand, the Medal of Honor on her uniform and a surgeon’s pin at her collar, and the medal appears again in detail at the left of the design. Inscriptions: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 25 CENTS, DR. MARY EDWARDS WALKER and MEDAL OF HONOR 1865. Civil War surgeon and the only woman ever to receive the Medal of Honor, awarded in 1865 for her battlefield service. Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray, Patsy Takemoto Mink, Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, Celia Cruz, and Zitkala-Sa. Murray was a civil rights activist and co-founder of NOW. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper-nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #940031.
