The 1808 Large Draped Bust to Left Quarter Eagle is a Gold Quarter Eagle produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Large Draped Bust to Left Quarter Eagles 1808 series. With a mintage of just 2,710, this is a rare issue sought by specialists. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban with a draped bust, while the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Designed by Robert Scot. Struck in 91.7% gold, 8.3% copper, weighing 4.37 grams, 20 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7660. The 1808 Large Capped Bust Quarter Eagle is one of the most notable one-year types in U.S. A one-year type coin with extremely low mintage. All surviving examples are rare and command significant premiums. An essential piece for gold type collectors.
