Description
The 2017 (D) Native American Dollar - Position A, struck at the Denver Mint, is part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date collection. The U.S. Mint produced 2.7 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only 24% of total production. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The 2017 Native American Dollar honors Sequoyah, the Cherokee scholar who single-handedly created the Cherokee syllabary, enabling Cherokee literacy and the first Native American newspaper. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #623098.
