Dollar coins honoring each U.S. president in chronological order, with four designs released annually. The series introduced edge-lettered inscriptions for the date, mintmark, and motto. Numerous edge lettering errors — missing, doubled, and inverted — occurred in early releases. Production for circulation ended in 2011, with subsequent issues made only for collectors.
