Description

The 2007 (P) Presidential Dollar - Thomas Jefferson, Position A was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a dollar in the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint's figure of 100.8 million covers every 2007-P Thomas Jefferson dollar, whichever way the edge lettering ran; how many are Position A coins is not recorded. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The third President (1801–1809) and principal author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson doubled the size of the nation through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. A polymath and founder of the University of Virginia, Jefferson also appears on the nickel, making this one of multiple U.S. coin appearances. Inaugural year of the Presidential Dollar Program, honoring Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. The "Godless Dollar" error — coins struck without the edge-incused motto IN GOD WE TRUST — generated national headlines and collector frenzy.
