Description

The 2010 (D) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - Franklin Pierce, Position A is a special strike dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint's count of 583,897 takes in every 2010 (D) Satin Finish Franklin Pierce dollar, Position A and its opposite together; how the total splits between them is not recorded. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fourteenth President (1853–1857), Franklin Pierce is the only president to have recited his inaugural address entirely from memory. His signing of the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 inflamed sectional tensions over slavery and contributed to the bloodshed of "Bleeding Kansas." Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, and Lincoln were honored. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #417273.
