The 2014 (S) Proof Presidential Dollar - Herbert Hoover is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 1.4 million examples. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The thirty-first President (1929–1933), Herbert Hoover was a self-made millionaire mining engineer who coordinated food relief for millions during World War I. His presidency was defined by the stock market crash of 1929 and the onset of the Great Depression. Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, and Franklin D. Roosevelt were released. The FDR dollar is particularly collected alongside the Roosevelt Dime for a complete Roosevelt numismatic set. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #526308.
