Description
The 2009 (P) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - John Tyler, Position A is a special strike dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 784,614 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 40 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The tenth President (1841–1845), John Tyler was the first vice president to assume the presidency upon the death of a sitting president, establishing the critical precedent of full presidential succession. He oversaw the annexation of Texas in the final days of his term. William Henry Harrison, Tyler, Polk, and Taylor were released. "In God We Trust" moved from the edge to the obverse, ending the "Godless Dollar" controversy. Production remained high for circulation. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $28 SP68 07-08-2022 eBay. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #407391.
