The 2007 (D) Presidential Dollar - James Madison, Position A represents a Denver Mint issue from the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The 87.8 million figure is every 2007-D James Madison dollar, whatever its edge orientation; the Position A share is not recorded. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fourth President (1809–1817), James Madison is known as the "Father of the Constitution" for his pivotal role in drafting the document and the Bill of Rights. His presidency was defined by the War of 1812, during which the British burned the White House and Capitol in 1814. Inaugural year of the Presidential Dollar Program, honoring Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. The "Godless Dollar" error — coins struck without the edge-incused motto IN GOD WE TRUST — generated national headlines and collector frenzy. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #148059.
