Description
The 2014 (S) Proof Presidential Dollar - Calvin Coolidge is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 1.4 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 20 mint variants, representing only 2% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The thirtieth President (1923–1929), Calvin Coolidge was known as "Silent Cal" for his reserved demeanor and belief in small government and fiscal restraint. He presided over the prosperous "Roaring Twenties" and was famously sworn in by his own father by kerosene lamplight in rural Vermont. Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, and Franklin D. Roosevelt were released. The FDR dollar is particularly collected alongside the Roosevelt Dime for a complete Roosevelt numismatic set. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value is approximately $9. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #526309.
