The 2008 (D) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - John Quincy Adams, Position A is a special strike dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 745,464 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 44 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The sixth President (1825–1829) and son of second president John Adams, John Quincy Adams won a contested election decided by the House of Representatives. After his presidency, he served 17 years in Congress — the only former president to do so. The second year honored Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Jackson, and Van Buren. Mounting complaints about edge lettering legibility led Congress to move "In God We Trust" to the obverse starting in 2009. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $146 SP69 08-28-2018 eBay.
