The 2007 (S) Proof Presidential Dollar - Thomas Jefferson is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 4.0 million examples, making this ranked 18th of 41 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The third President (1801–1809) and principal author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson doubled the size of the nation through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. A polymath and founder of the University of Virginia, Jefferson also appears on the nickel, making this one of multiple U.S. coin appearances. Inaugural year of the Presidential Dollar Program, honoring Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. The "Godless Dollar" error — coins struck without the edge-incused motto IN GOD WE TRUST — generated national headlines and collector frenzy. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors.
