The 2015 (S) Proof Presidential Dollar - John F. Kennedy is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 1.3 million examples, making this ranked 0th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 1% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The thirty-fifth President (1961–1963), John F. Kennedy was the youngest elected president and inspired a generation with his bold commitment to land a man on the Moon. Assassinated in Dallas in 1963, he has been honored on the half dollar since 1964. Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson were honored. The Kennedy dollar is collected alongside the Kennedy Half Dollar for a complete set spanning two denominations. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors.
