Description

The 2007 (P) Presidential Dollar - James Madison, Position A is a dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint's figure of 84.6 million covers every 2007-P James Madison dollar, whichever way the edge lettering ran; how many are Position A coins is not recorded. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fourth President (1809–1817), James Madison is known as the "Father of the Constitution" for his pivotal role in drafting the document and the Bill of Rights. His presidency was defined by the War of 1812, during which the British burned the White House and Capitol in 1814. Inaugural year of the Presidential Dollar Program, honoring Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. The "Godless Dollar" error — coins struck without the edge-incused motto IN GOD WE TRUST — generated national headlines and collector frenzy. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #148058.
