Description
The 2015 (P) Reverse Proof Presidential Dollar - John F. Kennedy is a reverse proof dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. With a mintage of 49,051, this is a scarce issue — ranked 3rd of 23 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The thirty-fifth President (1961–1963), John F. Kennedy was the youngest elected president and inspired a generation with his bold commitment to land a man on the Moon. Assassinated in Dallas in 1963, he has been honored on the half dollar since 1964. Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson were honored. The Kennedy dollar is collected alongside the Kennedy Half Dollar for a complete set spanning two denominations. This reverse proof features an inverted finish from traditional proofs — frosted fields with mirror-like design elements — creating a striking visual contrast that has become increasingly popular with collectors. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $92 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #568441.
