Description
The 2008 (P) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - John Quincy Adams, Position A is a special strike dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 745,464 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 44 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The sixth President (1825–1829) and son of second president John Adams, John Quincy Adams won a contested election decided by the House of Representatives. After his presidency, he served 17 years in Congress — the only former president to do so. The second year honored Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Jackson, and Van Buren. Mounting complaints about edge lettering legibility led Congress to move "In God We Trust" to the obverse starting in 2009. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $306 SP67 10-18-2012 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #394669.
