Description
The 2015 (P) Reverse Proof Presidential Dollar - Dwight D. Eisenhower is a proof dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. With a mintage of 16,744, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 23 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The thirty-fourth President (1953–1961), Dwight D. Eisenhower was the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during World War II who oversaw postwar prosperity and the creation of the Interstate Highway System. He previously appeared on the Eisenhower dollar (1971–1978), making this his second U.S. dollar coin appearance. Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson were honored. The Kennedy dollar is collected alongside the Kennedy Half Dollar for a complete set spanning two denominations. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $150 PR69 02-02-2021 eBay. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #546160.
