Description

The 2009 (D) Satin Finish Presidential Dollar - John Tyler, Position A is a special strike dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint's figure of 784,614 is quoted for the 2009 (D) Satin Finish John Tyler dollar as a whole, both edge positions combined; how many carry the Position A edge is not recorded. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The tenth President (1841–1845), John Tyler was the first vice president to assume the presidency upon the death of a sitting president, establishing the critical precedent of full presidential succession. He oversaw the annexation of Texas in the final days of his term. William Henry Harrison, Tyler, Polk, and Taylor were released. "In God We Trust" moved from the edge to the obverse, ending the "Godless Dollar" controversy. Production remained high for circulation. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #407392.
