Description
The 2016 (S) Proof Presidential Dollar - Ronald Reagan is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 1.2 million examples, making this ranked 0th of 12 mint variants by mintage, with 1% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fortieth President (1981–1989), Ronald Reagan was a former Hollywood actor who championed tax cuts, deregulation, and a military buildup credited with helping end the Cold War. He survived an assassination attempt in 1981. Nixon, Ford, and Reagan were released — only three coins this year, as George H.W. Bush was still living and program rules excluded living presidents. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value is approximately $11. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #595759.
