Copper coins produced by individual states under the Articles of Confederation, before the Constitution granted the federal government exclusive coining power. Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Vermont, and New York all produced their own copper coinage. These coins reflect the decentralized monetary system of early American independence.
