Coins and patterns proposed for a national coinage before the establishment of the U.S. Mint in 1792. These include the Continental dollar of 1776, the Nova Constellatio patterns of 1783, the Fugio cents of 1787, and various other proposals that influenced the design and standards of early American coinage. Many were designed by Benjamin Franklin or Robert Morris.
