Description
This 1787 Vermont copper pairs a Vermont head with a reverse reading BRITANNIA. Vermont's second type, ordered in October 1786, has a head with AUCTORI VERMON and a seated woman with INDE ET LIB. In 1787 Harmon and his partners joined the owners of Machin's Mills near Newburgh, New York, and some Vermont dies were paired with dies made for other coppers. Crosby lists the BRITANNIA die among the reverses of 1787. PCGS number 554.
