Description
A 1785 Vermont copper bearing the Latin legend VERMONTIS (meaning "of Vermont") on the obverse, with a sun rising over the Green Mountains and a plow in the foreground. The reverse features a radiant eye of providence with the legend QUARTA DECIMA STELLA ("The Fourteenth Star"), reflecting Vermont's aspiration to become the fourteenth state. This is one of the earliest Vermont copper types and uses the VERMONTIS spelling.
