Description
This 1786 Vermont copper is the Baby Head, with a small head facing right and AUCTORI VERMON. In October 1786 Vermont extended Harmon's grant for eight years from July 1, 1787 and ordered a new design: a head with AUCTORITATE VERMONTENSIUM, shortened on the coins to AUCTORI VERMON, and a seated woman with INDE ET LIB. In 1787 Harmon and his partners joined the owners of Machin's Mills near Newburgh, New York, and some dies of these years turn up with dies of other coppers. Crosby lists it as the first obverse of 1786. Catalogue numbers: RR-9, Bressett 7-F. PCGS number 548.
