About This Series

Silver commemorative half dollars spanning over 60 years, beginning with the 1892 Columbian Exposition half dollar. The series grew to include coins honoring states, cities, historical events, and organizations. Many were produced in limited quantities for local commemorations. Overproduction and abuse of the commemorative program led to a hiatus after 1954 until the modern era began in 1982.
