The 1936 Providence Rhode Island Tercentenary Commemorative Half Dollar is a United States half dollar from the Classic Silver Commemoratives (1892-1954) series. Providence Rhode Island Tercentenary half dollars dated 1936 were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints; published figures for the San Francisco coins differ (15,000, or 15,011 with the assay pieces). The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, each authorized by an individual act of Congress and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck during the Great Depression, when mintages dropped sharply and the United States abandoned the gold standard in 1933. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by Arthur Graham Carey & John Howard Benson.
