Description
The 1921 Missouri, 2*4 Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of just 5,000, this is a rare and highly sought-after issue. Issued in 1921 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Missouri's admission to the Union. The obverse features a frontiersman in coonskin cap and a Native American facing left, symbolizing the early settlers and indigenous peoples of Missouri, while the reverse displays a frontiersman and Native American standing together, with the inscription SEDALIA. Designed by Robert Aitken. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9331. Both varieties of the Missouri Centennial Half Dollar are scarce with a combined mintage of about 40,000 pieces. The '2 star 4' variety commands a significant premium due to its lower mintage of approximately 5,000 coins.
