Description
The 1920 Maine Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 50,028 examples. Issued to celebrate the centennial of Maine's admission to the Union in 1820. The obverse features the Maine state coat of arms featuring a pine tree, moose, and farmer, while the reverse displays a wreath encircling the inscription CENTENNIAL 1820-1920. Designed by Harry H. Cochrane. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9326. The Maine Centennial Half Dollar is a one-year-only issue with a modest mintage, making it a desirable addition to a classic commemorative collection. The coin was designed by Anthony de Francisci, who would later create the Peace Dollar design.
