Description

The 1936 (D) Texas Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Denver Mint. The Denver Mint's net mintage of Texas half dollars dated 1936 was 9,039. Authorized in 1934 to celebrate the centennial of Texas independence from Mexico in 1836. The obverse features an eagle perched in front of the Lone Star of Texas, while the reverse displays the winged goddess Victory holding the Alamo and an olive branch, with portraits of Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin beside her. Designed by Pompeo Coppini. Continued PDS production, with each mint typically producing around 9,000-10,000 pieces. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9387. The Texas Centennial Half Dollar was struck from 1934 to 1938, at the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints from 1935.
