Description
The 1936 York Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of 25,015, this is a scarce commemorative issue. Struck in 1936 to mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of York County, Maine, which was established in 1636 as one of the earliest organized territories in New England. The obverse features a stockade wall and a log cabin representing early colonial settlement in York County, Maine, while the reverse displays the York County seal featuring a pine tree and the inscription YORK COUNTY MAINE. Designed by Wlater H. Rich. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9449. With a mintage of 25,015, the York County Half Dollar is a moderately scarce single-year issue. It represents one of the more obscure subjects in the commemorative series, documenting early colonial history in northern New England.
