Description
The 1946 Iowa Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The Philadelphia Mint's net mintage of Iowa half dollars dated 1946 was 100,057. Struck in 1946 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Iowa's admission to the Union in 1846. The obverse features the Old Stone Capitol building in Iowa City, the first capitol of the state of Iowa, while the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings and the Iowa state seal, with the inscription OUR LIBERTIES WE PRIZE AND OUR RIGHTS WE WILL MAINTAIN. Designed by Adam Pietz. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9316. It marked the revival of the commemorative program after World War II.
