Description
The 1936 (S) Rhode Island Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. With a mintage of 15,000, this is a scarce commemorative issue. Struck in 1936 to mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of Rhode Island by Roger Williams in 1636. The obverse features roger Williams being greeted by a Native American as Williams arrives at the shore of Narragansett Bay in a canoe, founding the colony of Rhode Island in 1636, while the reverse displays an anchor and shield with thirteen stars, adapted from the Rhode Island state seal. Designed by Arthur Graham Carey & John Howard Benson. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9365. Produced in PDS sets with approximately 15,000 pieces per mint, the Rhode Island Half Dollar celebrates the founding of America's smallest state and one of its most important champions of religious liberty.
