Description

A restrike of the 1776 Continental Currency dollar produced by Thomas Elder, struck in copper and then silver-plated. Elder was a prominent early 20th-century New York coin dealer who produced restrikes of various colonial and early American coins for the collector market. The silver plating gives the appearance of an original silver striking, though the copper base is usually visible at the edges.
