Description
This 1785 piece pairs a head reading GEORGIVS III REX with the IMMUNE COLUMBIA reverse. These pieces pair the eye-and-stars obverse of the Nova Constellatio coppers with Liberty seated, holding scales, and IMMUNE COLUMBIA 1785. Crosby lists them in gold, silver and copper and thought the dies probably cut by Thomas Wyon of Birmingham; no record says what they were struck for. Crosby notes the misspelled CEORCIVS legend, made with punches also used on New Jersey and Vermont dies, and thought these among the last pieces struck before the Immune die sank. PCGS number 835.
