Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
A 1783 Nova Constellatio silver pattern for 100 units (Bit) with a plain edge. Gouverneur Morris proposed this decimal system to Congress as an alternative to the British monetary system. The "Bit" denomination (100 units) was the smallest silver coin in the proposed series. This plain edge variety differs from the decorated edge type and may represent a different stage of the pattern production.
