About This Coin
The CONFEDERATIO coppers of 1785 and 1786 show thirteen stars in a glory inside a large or a small circle. Their dies were paired with several others, among them INIMICA TYRANNIS AMERICANA with an Indian, a head of Washington, an eagle with E PLURIBUS UNUM, IMMUNIS COLUMBIA and a shield. Crosby believed the dies were cut by Thomas Wyon of Birmingham and that some were offered as patterns for state or national coppers; all the combinations are known in very small numbers.
