Description
This 1785 copper pairs a head of Washington with GEN. WASHINGTON and the CONFEDERATIO die with large stars. The CONFEDERATIO dies of 1785 show thirteen stars in a glory, in a large or a small circle, and were paired with several other dies: INIMICA TYRANNIS AMERICA or AMERICANA with an Indian, GEN. WASHINGTON, LIBERTAS ET JUSTITIA, an eagle with E PLURIBUS UNUM, IMMUNIS COLUMBIA and a shield. Crosby believed Thomas Wyon of Birmingham cut the dies and that some were proposals for state or national coppers. Catalogue numbers: Baker-9, Breen-1125, W-5645. PCGS number 849.
