Description

A 1785 Confederatio copper muling that pairs a Washington portrait obverse with the large stars CONFEDERATIO reverse. The Washington bust obverse is shared with the Washington colonial series and its appearance on a Confederatio reverse creates one of the most historically significant die combinations in colonial numismatics. This piece indicates Washington's image was being considered for a national coinage as early as 1785.

Rarity Notes

Extremely rare. One of the earliest coins to feature Washington's portrait.
