Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933

About This Series

Augustus Saint-Gaudens' last coin design, featuring an Indian headdress Liberty without the traditional stars. The design was part of Theodore Roosevelt's initiative to improve American coinage. The 1933 is a famous rarity due to the gold recall, with legal ownership of surviving specimens contested for decades. Production ended when the Gold Reserve Act removed gold from circulation.
