Description

The 1914 Proof Indian Head Eagle is a proof Gold Eagle struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 50 proof eagles dated 1914. The obverse features Liberty wearing a feathered Indian war bonnet, facing left, and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the mottoes E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design. As a proof, it was struck from specially prepared dies and planchets; proofs of this series have matte or satin finishes rather than mirror fields. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8896.
