Description
The 1911 (D) Indian Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 30,100, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 5% of total production. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco struck eagles. The 1911-D is a semi-key date. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $3.0K to $24K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8869.
