Description
The 1913 Indian Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 442,000, this is a less common issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 87% of production. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Philadelphia and San Francisco struck eagles. The 1913-S is a scarcer San Francisco date. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $2.6K to $3.2K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8873.
