Description
The 1907 Indian Head Eagle - Wire Rim is a Gold Eagle minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. About 500 Wire Rim eagles were struck on the Mint's medal press from Saint-Gaudens's original dies. The obverse features Liberty wearing a feathered Indian war bonnet, facing left, and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. First year of the Indian Head Eagle. The Wire Rim and Rolled Rim coins came before the final design and have periods around the reverse legends. "No Motto" type begins. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8850.
