Capped Bust to Right Eagles 1795-1804
Coin Series
About This Series
The first ten-dollar gold coins struck by the U.S. Mint, featuring Robert Scot's Liberty portrait with both Small Eagle and Heraldic Eagle reverses. The 1795 9 Leaves and 13 Leaves varieties are important die variants. Production ceased after 1804 as eagles were exported and melted for their gold content, not resuming until 1838.
