Description
The 1909 Indian Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 184,089, this is a scarce issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 31% of production. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco production. The 1909-S is a better date. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $2.6K to $3.6K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8862.
