Description
The 1908 (D) Indian Head Eagle - Motto is a Gold Eagle produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. The U.S. Mint produced 836,500 examples, making this the highest mintage among 5 variants, accounting for 56% of the year's production. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Both "No Motto" and "With Motto" varieties exist after Congress mandated restoration of IN GOD WE TRUST mid-year. Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco struck coins. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $2.6K to $6.7K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8860.
