Description
The 1907 Indian Head Eagle - Rolled Edge represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. About 32,000 Rolled Rim eagles were struck, and all but about fifty were melted in November 1907; Jeff Garrett at NGC gives 42 survivors. The obverse features Liberty wearing a feathered Indian war bonnet, facing left, and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. First year of the Indian Head Eagle. The Wire Rim and Rolled Rim coins came before the final design and have periods around the reverse legends. "No Motto" type begins. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8851.
