Description

The 1916 (S) Indian Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 138,500, this is a scarce issue. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. The 1916-S is the last eagle struck before a wartime gap in production. Estimated market value ranges from $2.6K to $8.3K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8880.
