Description
A Gold Eagle from the San Francisco Mint, the 1916 (S) Indian Head Eagle belongs to the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 138,500 eagles dated 1916. The obverse features Liberty wearing a feathered Indian war bonnet, facing left, and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the mottoes E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. The 1916-S is the last eagle struck before a wartime gap in production. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8880.
