Description
The 1908 (D) Indian Head Eagle - No Motto was struck at the Denver Mint as a Gold Eagle in the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. The Denver Mint struck 210,000 eagles dated 1908 without the motto. The obverse features Liberty wearing a feathered Indian war bonnet, facing left, and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Both "No Motto" and "With Motto" varieties exist after Congress mandated restoration of IN GOD WE TRUST mid-year. Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco struck coins. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8854.
